This study investigated the effects of explicit instruction using read-alouds for vocabulary understanding in a second-grade classroom. The intent is to determine if the direct teaching of vocabulary using read-alouds for 30-45 minutes a day, four to five days a week, for nine weeks, increases students’ vocabulary knowledge.
